techmesh IT & Telecoms EXPO 2010 is a one day exhibition and conference for all businesses in the country to meet Yorkshire and the Humber’s IT & Telecoms providers. The exhibition will feature Yorkshire and Humber IT & Telecom businesses showcasing their brand to businesses and professionals. Exhibitors will be demonstrating their latest products, services and innovations.

Entry to the EXPO is free and techmesh is encouraging all businesses to attend and support Yorkshire and Humber’s IT & Telecom businesses.

Please register to attend online at techmesh.org/expo

Yorkshire and the Humber has the potential and infrastructure to become a World centre of technology with many large IT & telecoms businesses already operating their head offices from locally based locations.

Gary Rowbotham, techmesh programme manager said: “The techmesh EXPO will be an opportunity for Yorkshire and Humber’s IT & Telecom sector to demonstrate their products, services and new developments.

“Collaboration and working together is one of the best ways to drive the sector forward. techmesh allows IT & Telecom companies in the region to meet, exchange and share information. By encouraging best practice and partnership working, this fuels the ambition of making Yorkshire and Humber a highly regarded destination for IT & Telecom businesses to locate and trade.”

“We have consistently seen companies in the region engaging with businesses elsewhere who were unaware of the availability and quality of companies available to them. techmesh aims to make this EXPO one of the most successful the region has seen.”

Throughout the day there will be a conference with a number of break out sessions, this is an opportunity to listen for free to keynote speakers from some of the largest IT & Telecom businesses in the World, these include: Google, Microsoft, Virgin Media, Xerox, Mitel, VMware, Crypto Card, VirtualDCS and Panintelligence.

James Akrigg, Head of Technology for Partners at Microsoft and one of the keynote speakers at the techmesh conference said:

“During this decade we are going to see some of the biggest and most substantial changes in our industry.  This year is ‘IT’s Time to Change’ as we embrace the future of cloud computing and drive efficiency and effectiveness across all businesses.  The vision to deliver continuous connected cloud services to every person and every business has already begun.  See the technologies that will enable this change from Microsoft.”

Nathan Mayer, conference speaker, from VMware commented about the techmesh IT & Telecoms EXPO:

“The techmesh EXPO is an excellent opportunity to engage with Yorkshire businesses who are interested in doing innovative things with IT; we’ll be using the conference to outline the benefits of these technologies and show how businesses can exploit them to reduce costs and increase agility.

Virtualization and cloud computing are two of the top priorities for senior IT decision makers in 2010, yet there remains confusion around both. As the world leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, VMware solutions accelerate an organisation’s transition to the cloud.

I will be presenting around how, using virtualization technology to move from a physical to virtual IT environment, companies can get more from their existing IT assets, reduce capital expenses in their data centres by up to 60% and cut energy costs by up to 80%.

The cloud represents a new architecture and a new way of doing business, and virtualization is the first step on the journey towards the cloud. At the highest level, the cloud reduces the complexity of IT, turning IT from a cost centre into a service provider and giving it the ability to transform the agility of a business.”

Jason Hart, keynote speaker at the techmesh EXPO 2010 is Senior VP in Europe at CryptoCard, he comments:

“With more and more services moving to the cloud – and the increasingly mobile nature of users whether they’re on their laptop or mobile – the topic that comes up time and again is security.
In this keynote presentation, I will be addressing the issue of preventing identity theft and fraud.

Key questions I will be asking are do you really know who is accessing your data and what are the future risks we can expect to see and how can we prepare for them?  To demonstrate some of the issues, I will also be doing a live hacking session to show just how vulnerable companies could be.  I look forward to presenting at the Techmesh Conference as it will be providing a good platform for businesses to meet, learn and find out the best solutions that will work for them.”

The IT & Telecom EXPO is sponsored by Leeds-based VirtualDCS who provide innovative ways to host business systems.

Using the latest cloud computing technology from VMware, its solution delivers significant cost savings, improved availability and reduced carbon emissions. Established in 2008, the company gives clarity to cloud computing by confidently delivering robust services underpinned by outstanding levels of client care.

virtualDCS’s secure hosting platform is entirely UK-based and wholly-owned and managed by the company itself.  Industry experts in virtualisation technologies, virtualDCS primarily offers cloud hosting of complete business infrastructure solutions - including MS-Exchange, MS-SQL, file & print, ERP, accounting and CRM – in addition to cloud hosting of individual servers and off-site disaster recovery servers.
Commenting on the techmesh IT and Telecoms EXPO 2010, Richard said: “We are very pleased to be sponsoring the EXPO as it provides an excellent opportunity for the region’s leading authorities in IT and telecoms to meet and exchange ideas.

“techmesh is Yorkshire’s preeminent IT and telecoms business network so its events are of significant interest and value to everyone who attends. We are looking forward to telling delegates about virtualDCS, what we have to offer and how it can deliver substantial, quantifiable business benefits.”

Major sector specific developments in the region include BT’s implementation of high-speed, super-fast fibre based broadband. BT started laying its fibre cables and upgrading exchanges earlier this year. The BT investment makes broadband speeds of up to 24 Mb/s available – more than double the maximum speeds previously available to the majority of UK homes and businesses.

John Anderson, BT’s regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “This faster broadband service will play a major role in helping our region attract and retain inward investment. It is a major step forward offering numerous improvements and opportunities - and faster broadband for many customers in the region.”

“Companies providing broadband services can customise their products and services to more closely match the needs of businesses and households. Services delivered over next generation broadband can be quicker, more efficient and offer a much wider range of features than those previously available.

Businesses today can now move away from power hungry server rooms and access all of their information by placing it within secure data centres connected to the internet’s global computing network. High speed broadband access in the region will allow this and many data centres are choosing to locate in Yorkshire because of the high-speed broadband accessibility.

By accessing data, software and services online through the internet instead of onsite is called ‘Cloud Computing’ and is currently one of the fastest growing trends in the industry.

BT is not the only company investing in a high speed broadband infrastructure in the region. Sheffield business broadband provided by Digital Region, should soon see the city overtaking Oxford with the 5th fastest connections speeds in the World.

The newly built South Yorkshire Digital Region network uses fibre optic technology to deliver downloads speeds up to 40Mbps to Sheffield businesses, guaranteed at minimum speed of 15Mbps. This figure beats the average in Oxford which is 14.5Mbps.

BT Infinity Superfast Broadband has featured frequently in the recent press with their Fibre-to-the-cabinet broadband (FTTC) service. BT plan to offer 40% coverage of the UK by 2012, although South Yorkshire does not feature heavily in these plans. Not wanting to be left behind, the local authorities have formed a special purpose vehicle to deliver Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield Business Broadband services via the South Yorkshire Digital Region Network.

Jim Farmery, Assistant Director of Business at Yorkshire Forward, which is supporting the event, said:

“The digital industry in the Yorkshire and Humber region is a thriving one, and we’ve done all we can to promote this growth.

“One of the key things we’ve done is set up Digital Region, a partnership of local authorities and public sector organisations that have joined forces to provide high-speed internet access for more than 40,000 businesses and over a million homes in South Yorkshire.

“Through schemes such as this we hope to enable the continued growth of the sector in our region, which will benefit the local and national economy in the long-term.”

This allows businesses to take advantages of many applications such as Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP), Web-based Video Conferencing, Software-as-a-service (SaaS) and managed back-up and storage, whilst also experiencing significantly faster download and upload speeds.

South Yorkshire is unique in the extent that the Digital Region service will offer blanket coverage of the region instead of focusing on lucrative areas as is the case with many other deployments in the UK.

Blue logic are techmesh members and will be exhibiting at the EXPO. Their principal activity is the provision of information technology support services and business solutions to the small to medium business in the Yorkshire Area.

Dave Helm, Director of Blue Logic comments:

“A lot of people are not aware about IT & Telecom companies and technological advancements that are now available in our region. “

“There are many great IT & Telecoms businesses based right here in Yorkshire and its refreshing to see an organisation like techmesh promoting IT & Telecom businesses to a wider audience in our surrounding area through the EXPO and this is why we were enthusiastic to book a stand to exhibit.”
