IT and telecommunications professionals invited to free event

20 April 2010

techmesh, the leading IT & Telecom business network within Yorkshire and Humber is hosting a free networking event in Hull

Building on other successful techmesh events around the region, companies and professionals operating in the sector are being invited to attend techmesh: Hull at the University of Hull Business School on April 29th at 6:00pm.

There will be a key note speech from Nick Riley, Director of the Logistics Technology Group at the University of Hull. He will talk about Radio-frequency identification.

Nick Riley comments: “Logistics and Supply Chains can show considerable efficiency gains by adoption of appropriate Identification, Location and Communication (ILC) technologies. The Logistics Technology Group at the University of Hull aims to promote understanding and adoption of such ILC technologies for the benefit of UK industry.”

The University of Hull Logistics Institute (UHLI) was established in December 2005 with funding to the value of £20 Million, as a collaboration between the Department of Engineering and the Business School.

For the Hull event, techmesh are teaming up with Hull Digital, Kingston Upon Hull's technology community, which has grown rapidly in the past 15 months.

Hull Digital was founded by Jon Moss, who runs www.theappleofmyi.com, a company which helps people, brands and businesses to be more successful online. He also delivered the region’s first digital and technology conference in October 2009, HDLive, where Rory Cellan-Jones (BBC), Charles Arthur (Guardian) and Mike Butcher (Techcrunch) spoke at. He is running Hull Digital Question Time in May, the first event of its kind which is open to everyone (www.hdqt.co.uk).

Jon Moss comments: “I’m delighted to be working with techmesh for this event. The success of businesses in the IT, new media and digital arenas is vital for the growth and development of the region. Bringing people together encourages partnerships and fosters an excellent working environment where people can help each other.”

Gary Rowbotham, techmesh Programme Manager, said: “Collaboration and working together is one of the best ways to drive the sector forward and techmesh: Hull allows those businesses operating in the area a chance to network, swap ideas and make personal connections.”

With IT and telecommunications set to make a major contribution to the Yorkshire and Humber economy the new business network, techmesh, will provide an opportunity for companies, organisations and individuals working in these sectors to meet, exchange information and share best practice.

There are a limited number of tickets remaining for techmesh: Hull. Tickets are available through the techmesh website at techmesh.org or contact the Events Coordinator, Dawn Kelly, on 0113 384 5641 or dawn.kelly@techmesh.org
