David Parkin is the Editor and founder of business news website TheBusinessDesk.com.  He was Business Editor of the Yorkshire Post from 2000 to 2007, responsible for its award-winning business pages.  Backed by investors and funders, he launched TheBusinessDesk.com in November 2007 and it has since expanded into the North West and West Midlands.

David has held senior roles on newspapers in London, Cardiff and the Midlands, and has secured many exclusive interviews with major business figures including Sir Ken Morrison, Lord Hanson - and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

 Ajaz Ahmed - Founder of Freeserve, once the UK’s largest internet service provider (ISP)

Ajaz Ahmed founded Freeserve, once the UK’s largest internet service provider (ISP). Having bought a PC from PC World in Leeds, he discovered that no one there could tell him how to get onto the internet. So in 1998 he persuaded Dixons to launch Freeserve. After becoming the UK’s largest ISP (in just three months), quickly going public at £1.5bn and entering the FT100 soon after with a market cap at its height of £9bn. Freeserve was later sold by Dixons to Wanadoo (a France Telecom company) for £1.6bn in 2001. Ajaz was Business Development Director until April 2001, when he left to pursue other business interests. He now holds several board positions and is actively involved with a number of investments, his latest venture promises to revolutionise the legal sector, www.legal365.com. He also sits on the advisory board of the Business School at the University of Huddersfield and is a board member of Yorkshire Forward.

Andy Peterson - Head of Marketing, Product & Propositions, KC Business

Andy joined KC in 2002 as a Residential Product Manager. Prior to this he spent 8 years at BTCellnet (now known as O2) and then a year at Management Consultants, Capgemini. Since his arrival, Andy has held a number of different roles in Marketing, Business Development and Product Management, working with both Business and Consumer Sales channels, before returning to KC in October 2009 to become Head of Business Marketing, Product & Propositions.
Andy has a Degree in Business and Finance from Leeds Business School and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Outside of work, he was a keen footballer and cricketer, but now prefers to watch.

 Stuart Barker is a director at the Agenci Ltd. The Agenci are a specialist Information Security and Data Protection Business founded in 2004. He specialises in Cloud Computing Security, PCI DSS, ISO27001, Third Party, and Business Controls Assurance. Prior to joining the Agenci Stuart was the Head of Data Governance and Information Security at GE and subsequently Santander. He has worked across the world, spoken at conferences and actively participated in the creation of industry wide compliance standards.

 

 

Seminar presentation topic: Cloud Control & Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) - Stuart will be discussing the challenge that faces both providers and consumers of cloud computing services and some simple measures businesses can take to protect themselves and their customers. Along with what is PCI DSS and how is this applicable to business.


 

 

Alan Ward joined BT in 1980 as a sponsored student and graduated in Physics from Oxford University in 1984. His subsequent career with BT has spanned corporate and group strategy, product development, bid management, organisational design, network design, systems integration and systems software development. He has worked extensively with BT's commercial partners in Europe and Asia. Alan has recently moved to become Head of the Corporate ICT Research Practice in BT Innovate and Design where he leads a team of analysts accountable for setting the innovation direction in a range of portfolio and service projects. He is a member of BT’s regional board for Yorkshire and Humberside.

Bryan Kinsella - Board Level Chief Information Officer/Non Executive Director

Bryan joined Rentokil Initial plc in 2007 as Chief Information Officer and a member of the Executive Board. During his four years at RI, Bryan radically transformed the global IT landscape, is recognised as an innovator and thought leader, having led the global deployment of cloud computing throughout the Group. Prior to R-I Bryan has held a number of senior positions for global businesses:

  • Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Society of International Telecommunications and Aeronautics (SITA)
  • International Vice President and UK Managing Director of James Martin.
  • Leading business process outsourcing and large scale business and systems programmes for Vertex Data Sciences
  • Bryan held a number of Board positions over a 5 year period including Transition and Transformation Director followed by IT and Programmes Director.
  • At Computer Science Corporation Bryan began as a Consultant and quickly grew through the ranks to Senior Consultant, Managing Consultant and Director.  Over a 7 year period Bryan led major programmes for the RAF and Lexmark, prior to managing large-scale outsorcing and programmes for British Aerospace, and ICI. At British Aerospace Bryan led the IS/IT strategy that resulted in him being put forward by the CSC European President as the global employee of the year
