This month we team up with The Chartered Institute of Marketing Mid Yorkshire Branch, which is hosting the institute's Technology Market Interest Group event.

Business owners and marketers of technology / telecoms products in the region are being encouraged to attend this one off seminar which will help them develop high impact marketing strategies.

‘Shoestrings and Straight lines: how to market a technology product’ includes presentations from leading experts who understand the challenges and frustrations of marketing technology products faced by small and medium sized businesses. The event focus is on successful marketing strategies and the sharing of best practice.

Andy Peterson - Head of Business Marketing, Product & Propositions for KC Business 

Andy joined KC in 2002 as a Residential Product Manager. Prior to this he spent 8 years at BTCellnet (now known as O2) and then a year at Management Consultants, Capgemini. Since his arrival, Andy has held a number of different roles in Marketing, Business Development and Product Management, working with both Business and Consumer Sales channels, before returning to KC in October 2009 to become Head of Business Marketing, Product & Propositions.

Andy has a Degree in Business and Finance from Leeds Business School and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Outside of work, he was a keen footballer and cricketer, but now prefers to watch.

Andy will share his experiences with 'welcome to the real world - a users guide to the high and lows of marketing technology products with social media and everything else'.

Rob Heerdegen - Online & Strategic Marketing Consultant

Rob, who brings over 8 years experience and education in strategic, digital, and international B2B marketing, helps technology marketers understand their buyer's purchasing behaviours, enabling marketing and sales with proven tactics that strengthen their new business acquisition efforts and improve their customer retention rates.

Rob has held strategic marketing roles for several small start-up software companies but also, in his current role as a Senior Specialist of Revenue Performance Management at Eloqua UK, has helped guide the marketing departments of larger global enterprise firms, including VMWare, NXP, and Colt.

Eloqua, a global Software-as-a-Service company, provides solutions to help its customers accelerate revenue growth through Revenue Performance Management. More than 1,000 clients rely on the marketing automation power of Eloqua to improve demand generation and lead management while driving more qualified leads. Eloqua's customers include Adobe, AON, Dow Jones, ADP, Fidelity, Polycom, and National Instruments.

Rob will focus on supporting a technology buyer's journey, marketing best practices to facilitating this new reality by streamlining content creation and distribution - 'Warning! Your brand has been hijacked. Your buyer is in complete control and your marketing team likely has no idea.'

Paul Lancaster - Founder of Plan Digital and Web Development Executive for Shell LiveWIRE

Since 1998, Social Media and Digital Marketing expert Paul has worked in key IT/web roles for Sage, British Airways and BT Broadband before a spending a brief stint in the music industry as a DJ, producer, promoter and label owner while working for music development agency Generator.

In 2005, Paul joined local enterprise agency the PNE Group (formerly known as Project North East) to manage their voluntaryskills.com website for which he won the title of 'Best Voluntary Sector Website' at the North East Digital Awards 2008. In the same year he was a finalist in the Ward Hadaway/Community Foundation 'Voluntary Sector Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2008'.

For the past 3yrs, his role has been that of Web Development Executive for Shell LiveWIRE, the UK’s biggest online community for young entrepreneurs aged 16-30, coordinating all their digital marketing and social media, content creation and forum moderation.

In 2011, Paul joined Seth Godin’s ‘Domino Project Street Team’ - an international group of connectors and influencers helping to change the face of publishing (in association with Amazon), began hosting weekly after work events for local tech start-ups and developers at the PostOffice venue in Newcastle, and started his own part-time training and consultancy business, Plan Digital.

On 11/11/11 he organised the world’s first No Email Day which went viral and resulted in him being interviewed by BBC Radio 5 Live and featured in The Next Web, Wired, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, The Journal and The Sunday Times. (No Email Day #2 is set to return on 12/12/12).

Paul will talk about emotional technology (or Emotech) and how to start a viral/global campaign with nothing more than a laptop, smartphone and your imagination.
