CMI Annual Lecture 2011 with Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire

The Chartered Management Institute Central and West Yorkshire branch are holding this year's prestigious Annual Lecture on 23rd March, in association with the University of Huddersfield Business School.
 
Following last year’s highly successful lecture given by Tony Reeves, Chief Executive of Bradford Council, this year we are delighted to welcome Gary Verity, Chief Executive of ‘Welcome to Yorkshire.’ Yorkshire currently attracts 216 million visitors, supporting 250,000 jobs directly and generating £7 billion in revenue for the county. Gary is working closely with tourism partners to grow the visitor economy and make Yorkshire the UK’s top visitor destination.  
 
Since his appointment, Gary has implemented award winning marketing campaigns and the launch of the inspirational website, yorkshire.com.
 
A dynamic and motivational leader, Gary has an excellent track record in brand building, customer service and managing complex businesses with national and international profiles.
 
The Chartered Management Institute and the University of Huddersfield Business School have a long established partnership. The University is a reputable provider of leadership and management programmes and has just celebrated the 25th anniversary of its world class, CMI accredited, MBA qualification. The annual Lecture will take place in the newly opened £17 million Business School.

Introducing Gary Verity
 
Since his appointment as Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire in 2008 he has successfully raised the profile of Yorkshire at a regional, national and international level. A dynamic and motivational eader, Gary has an excellent track record in brand building and managing complex businesses. In his spare time Gary is an award-winning Dales sheep farmer and lives on a working farm near Leyburn. Since his late wife Helen was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2004 he has raised more than £400,000 for cancer charities in Yorkshire. Helen died in 2009 but Gary continues to raise money for their chosen charities. Gary has worked at various locations internationally, including Hong Kong, Spain, Holland, Italy and Ireland… but says now he is back in Yorkshire he has the best job in the world!
