Working together: local business and Computer Science

2nd March 2011 - Department of Computer Science, Heslington East campus, University of York
Do you need help moving your business forward? Do you need advice or support on your IT facilities? Would you like to take advantage of cutting-edge research, or commission your own research project?

At this breakfast event, we aim to show you the benefits of engaging with York’s Department of Computer Science. Our position at the leading-edge of technological research allows us to offer you consultancy and guidance, practical support, and education and training, to help you make the most of your facilities and staff. We regularly collaborate with businesses and governments around the world, applying modern research results, advising on advanced computer and software technology or through continuing professional development.

Meet our Head of Department, Professor John McDermid OBE and our Head of Research, Professor John Clark, to find out more about what we offer. You’ll also hear from our Industrial Placements Consultant, Paul Keeler, who will explain why taking one of our students on an internship will also give you the benefit of our expertise.

You can find out how to become directly involved in our research. Our Engineering Doctorate in Large Scale Complex IT Systems allows you to take on a doctorate student for four years to work on a research project of your choice – and the wages of the student are paid for by our studentships. Our Engineering Doctorate Centre Director will be on hand to explain more.

Don’t miss this chance to find out more about how we can help you. We’re laying on bacon butties (or a lighter option for those still keeping their New Year’s Resolution), and there are plenty of chances to network with other local businesses and our academic staff, as well as the option to check out first-hand the University’s brand new Heslington East expansion.

This event is free to attend. Book online at
